At Mac 1, we offer data recovery which we carry out using Mac-specific methods and techniques. The fees are determined by the size of the drive requiring service. The standard turnaround for data recovery is 5-7 business days depending on the extent to which the data is damaged.

Fees for data recovery vary widely depending on the storage mechanism. Please call us for a quote.

In some cases we've been able to recover Macintosh file data from PC-formatted external disks. If you have further questions about this service, you can either call us on the numbers below or use our contact form.

If the data is time-sensitive, we do offer a rush data recovery service. Rush fees vary but always include a non-refundable £120 charge plus vat to skip ahead of the data recoveries already in the shop. Rush data recoveries vary in turnaround time, but we aim to complete them in three business days when possible.

Data Recovery FAQ

Can you recover a file that was deleted accidentally?
In many cases we can. We would need to know the type of file, the name of the file and when you accidentally deleted it.

My hard drive is making clicking noises, should I be concerned?
If the hard drive is making sounds it never made before, back up your critical data immediately. Consider it a warning and replace the drive. If you can't back up the data, bring it to us.

My FireWire external hard drive is asking to be initialized. I need some of the files on it. What utilities can I use to try and fix this myself?
If the data is critical, we don't suggest running any utilities on it. We'd rather have you bring the drive in for a professional data recovery technician to look at it. If the data is not critical you can try using a utility like DiskWarrior. This can be useful in some cases where the directory is damaged. But be aware-utilities are never guaranteed, and can sometimes cause more harm than good.

My computer was in a fire, is my data up in smoke?
Not necessarily. We've retrieved data from fire-damaged equipment in the past.
